Description

No. 19 and the attached grating on Morford Street is a terrace house that has been converted into flats. It dates from around 1775 to 1789 and has seen some alterations in the 20th century. The front is made of limestone ashlar, which is now painted, with a timber bressumer over the ground floor. The plinth is made of rubble, while the rear features both ashlar and rubble. The building has a double pile roof with a parapet at the front, covered with pantiles. There is an ashlar and render stack on the front roof and a rebuilt brick stack on the rear slope.

The exterior consists of three storeys and a basement, with a two-window front. The first floor has two plate glass horned sashes set in splayed reveals with stone sills, and the second floor has two similar windows. On the ground floor, there are two matching windows on the left, and a 20th-century five-panel door on the right in a plain reveal with chamfered jambs. This door was formerly framed by an architrave, but now only the frieze and projecting moulded cornice remain. The basement window is now blocked, and there is a 20th-century door. Pennant steps lead down to the area to the right before No. 21 Morford Street. The left side features a weathered plinth, a moulded eaves cornice, and a coped parapet that has been rebuilt in reconstituted stone. The rear elevation includes six-over-six sashes for the staircase and ground floor, with horns, and a 20th-century window on the left side of the ground floor. There have been 20th-century alterations to the basement and a new porch providing access to the flats at the rear.

The interior has not been inspected but is noted to have undergone changes during the conversion to flats. A notable feature is the attached grating set in a rectangular opening in the pavement.
