Description
No. 27 Morford Street is a terrace house, now divided into flats, built around 1775 to 1789, with 20th-century alterations. The front is made of limestone ashlar, while the rear features a mix of ashlar and rubble. It has a double pile parapeted mansard roof covered with Welsh slate, with double Roman tiles on the upper slope at the rear and Welsh slate on the lower slope. The left side has a coped party wall with two ashlar stacks topped with some early clay pots. There is a staircase at the rear.
The building is three storeys high, with an attic and basement, and has a single bay with a three-window front. The first floor features three grouped plate glass horned sash windows, which are narrower on the left and right, set in splayed reveals with a continuous stone sill and a wrought iron balconette. The second floor has three similar sash windows without a balconette. On the ground floor, there are two paired sash windows on the left and a six-panel door on the right, which has flush and fielded panels in a beaded reveal, accessed by one Pennant step leading to a concreted crossover. The basement has two blocked windows and a 20th-century door under the crossover. There is a double dormer with four-over-four horned sashes. The building features a band course over the ground floor, a moulded eaves cornice, and a coped parapet.
The rear elevation includes six-over-six sash windows, with horns except on the ground floor and the second half-landing, which has 20th-century louvered lights in the top sash. The basement has undergone 20th-century alterations, and there is a new porch providing access to the flats at the rear.
Additionally, there are attached wrought iron railings and a gate with urn heads on limestone bases.
