Description

Two shops, now combined, with flats above, likely dating back to the mid-18th century, with further alterations in the early 19th century and a mid-19th century shopfront. The front is limestone ashlar, painted on the left-hand side (No.3), with rubble to the rear. A large extension to the rear of No.3 is constructed of ashlar, rubble, and render. The roofs are largely Welsh slate, with a missing and tarpaulin-covered roof structure at the rear of No.2A. There are two ashlar chimney stacks with early clay pots on the left (No.3), and two ashlar stacks on the right, with the rear stacks partially collapsed; a mono-pitch roof with pantiles covers the rear extension of No.3.

The building is three storeys and has a basement; the front has a two-window facade. The first floor has a plate glass, horned sash window in a plain reveal with a stone sill to the left (No.3), and a four/four horned sash window in a similar reveal to the right (No.2A). The second floor has two plate glass, horned sashes in plain reveals with stone sills. The ground floor has a continuous mid-19th century shopfront, with 20th-century alterations, including a plate glass window and a half-glazed door with overlight to the left (No.3), and a four-panel door with four-centred arched heads to the upper panels and a single-pane overlight centrally, all under a continuous entablature supported by heavy console brackets, flanked by two blind boxes and a cornice. A grating and glass bricks cover the basement openings to the left and right. A band course sits above the first floor, and a projecting frieze and moulded cornice lead to a coped parapet.

The rear elevation features a six/six sash window to the first floor of No.2A, and a six/six sash window to the second floor of No.3. Other windows on the rear are plate glass sashes. A large 20th-century extension to the rear of No.3 has corresponding 20th-century windows and two visible doors. Smaller extensions are present to the rear of No.2A. The interior has not been inspected. A staircase is located to the rear.
