Description

This is a house, later adapted as a shop with flats above, built around 1775. It has undergone alterations in the mid-19th century and the 20th century. The front of the building is faced with limestone ashlar, although the rear is rendered and pecked. It has a mansard roof with concrete tiles, along with coped party walls to either side. Two ashlar stacks, truncated at the rear and without pots, are present on the left side. A staircase is located at the rear.

The building is three stories high, with an attic and basement, and has a three-window front. The first floor has three 20th-century sash windows set in splayed reveals with stone sills. The second floor replicates this with three similar windows. The ground floor features a 19th-century shopfront, which has been altered in the 20th century. Its central section is a four-light canted bay window, projecting forward and supported by three wrought iron brackets over a basement grating. A glazed door with overlight is on the left, and a 20th-century three-panel door with two-pane overlight to the right, both set within a surround with panelled pilasters and strips. A heavy, moulded console bracket supports a deep projecting frieze cornice, now with 20th-century boxing-out, which retains a panelled soffit and blind box. One step leads to Pennant paving, with another Pennant step incorporating a cast iron footscraper to the right of the main door. A partially visible eight/eight sash window is at basement level. A double dormer incorporates 20th-century sashes. The rear elevation, partly visible, has 20th-century sashes and rendered extensions. The interior was not inspected.
