Description
This is a terrace house, now converted into flats, built around 1775 to 1789, with alterations in the 20th century. The front of the house is limestone ashlar, painted on the ground floor, with a timber bressumer above the ground floor. The basement is rubble, and the rear is a mix of ashlar and rubble. The roof is double-pitched with a mansard form, and a parapet to the front. The upper slopes are pantile, the lower front slope is double Roman tiles, and the rear lower slope is Welsh slate. The party wall on the left has been coped and includes two stacks, with early clay pots. The front has been rebuilt in reconstituted stone.
The house has three storeys, an attic, and a basement, with a two-window front. The first floor has two six-pane sash windows with horns, set in splayed reveals with stone sills. The second floor has two similar windows. The ground floor has two paired plate glass, horned sash windows in splayed reveals with a continuous stone sill. A six-panel door, with flush fielded and recessed panels, is set within a moulded stone architrave, a frieze, and a projecting moulded cornice. The basement has a blocked former window opening with a timber lintel. The area steps to the left of the basement belong to the adjacent property at No.19. A double dormer window has a six/six-horned sash. Other external details include a band course above the ground floor, a moulded eaves cornice, and a coped parapet rebuilt in reconstituted stone. The rear elevation has six-pane sash windows, with 20th-century alterations to the basement and a 20th-century porch providing rear access to the flats.
The interior has been altered during conversion to flats. Attached wrought iron railings, with urn heads and a gate, are set on limestone and concrete bases.
