Description
The Village School is a picturesque building made of painted brick, dating from around 1840. It is L-shaped and single-storey, topped with a hipped slate roof. The entrance front features three 2-light windows, each with arched centres that have quasi-cusping, set within recessed panels that have cornices made of alternately projecting bricks. A similar cornice runs along the main eaves and the hipped porch, which has a flat-headed doorway. The short west end of the building has two windows without arched lights, also set in similar panels. On the east side, there are two tall windows with quasi-cusped arched lights and three transoms above the eaves, designed as hipped dormers, along with a smaller 2-light window. The Village School and the Schoolhouses on Holdenhurst Road form a group.
