Description

No. 12 is an end-terraced house dating to around 1800, with alterations in the 20th century. It is constructed of limestone ashlar to the front, now painted, with ashlar and rubble to the right side. The double-pile roof is parapeted to the front and hipped to the right, covered with pantiles and triple Roman tiles, with a coped gable wall to the right and two ashlar stacks.

The house is three storeys and a basement, with a single-window front. The first floor has a six-over-six sash window in a splayed reveal, with a stone sill and a wrought-iron balconette. The second floor has a similar window. The ground floor has a similar window to the right, without a balconette, and a six-panel door with flush beaded and glazed panels, set in a plain reveal with two slate-faced steps. A two-over-one and a six-pane casement window is located in the basement to the right, with a continuous timber lintel. A timber bressumer and a stone band course run over the ground floor, with a coved eaves cornice and coped parapet above. There is evidence of a probable former shopfront to the ground floor, with a reeded timber pilaster remaining to the right. The right side of the house shows 20th-century windows in the former party wall with the neighbouring house. The rear elevation is not visible.

The interior of the house has not been inspected. A garden wall is attached to the right, and forms part of the lower part of the front wall of the former adjoining house, with a blocked window and door opening. The house now stands at the end of the terrace, following the demolition of houses that formerly stood to its right.
