Description

Oriel Cottage comprises two blocks of a house attached to Oriel Lodge. The left-hand block dates to the late 18th century, while the right-hand block was built in the early to mid-19th century. The construction uses limestone ashlar with slate roofs and chimney stacks to the left return and party wall. The house has a double-depth plan. The left-hand block is lower in height and features a coped parapet and cornice, a hipped roof over a full-height bay canted at the corners, and an eight/eight-pane sash window with louvered shutters to the first floor. The right-hand block is three storeys high and has two/two-pane sash windows, with one window to the second floor incorporating a sun-blind box and two to the first floor having hinged louvered shutters. A single-storey extension has been built out on the ground floor, featuring a half-glazed door to the left, a plate glass sash window to the centre, and a tripartite two/two-pane sash window to the right. The interior of the cottage was not inspected.
