Description
This dovecote, located 60 yards southwest of Church Farmhouse, likely dates from the late 16th century. It is built of coursed rubble with squared ashlar blocks, featuring freestone quoins and dressings. The roof is double Roman tiled, complete with moulded coping and finials at the gables. The structure is rectangular in shape, with a central chamfered and segmental-headed doorway on the south side, and later square openings above and to the right. Both the east and west gables have 3-light casement windows with hollow chamfered mullions and surrounds, all under dripmoulds; however, the outer lights of the west window and all of the east window are blocked. Inside, there is an inserted floor supported by a chamfered beam, and the nesting holes in the upper part remain intact, constructed from finely sawn ashlar.
