Description
The Church of St Michael is an Anglican parish church built in 1865 by C.E. Giles of Taunton, replacing an earlier church from 1814. It was altered and enlarged in 1886 by E.H.L. Barker. The church features a west tower, nave, chancel, south aisle and chapel, and north aisle and chapel, all designed in an Early English style.
The west tower has two stages, a saddleback roof with a weathervane, set back buttresses, and a cylindrical stair tower with a conical roof on the north side. The bell chamber includes a corbel table and triple lancet lights, while the west window has two-light plate tracery. There is a chamfered doorway under a gable on the north side. The north aisle contains two 2-light plate tracery windows and a coarsely cut wheel window in the north transept. The chancel features a 3-light east window with lancets and foiled circles above. The south aisle and chapel have single 2- and 3-light trefoil-headed windows, some with dripmoulds and carved stops.
Inside, there is a three-bay arcade supported by cylindrical columns and pointed arches. All interior fittings date from the 1860s and later.
