Description
11 Monmouth Place is a terraced house that has been converted into a takeaway restaurant. It dates from the late 18th century and was altered in the early 19th century, although it may contain some earlier features and 20th-century additions. The building is constructed from rubble and has a double Roman tile roof.
The exterior has three storeys and features two windows. On the left, there is a plain sash window in a flush surround at both the first and second floors. To the right, there is a smaller six-over-six sash window at the first floor, with remnants of a former window surround visible above it. The ground floor has a small workshop or mid-19th-century shop that extends to the pavement, featuring an ashlar front with a three-pane display window that has slender mullions and flat arched heads. This is topped by a large 20th-century full-width fascia with a raised centre, and there is a side entrance to the shop. To the right, aligned with the main wall, is an early four-panel door with a stone hood and cheeks. An ashlar boundary wall, approximately 1.5 meters high, runs forward on the party line between this house and its neighbour. The building has a thin cornice at the ashlar blocking course and parapet, with a stack located to the left.
The interior has not been inspected. This house, along with the adjoining one, appears older than most of the nearby properties and may represent the early stages of development along the Bristol Road.
