Description
19 Green Street is a terrace house that has been converted into a shop. It dates from the mid-18th century, with some alterations made in the mid-19th century, possibly involving the refacing of an earlier property. The building is constructed of painted ashlar with a rubble gable on the left and features a slate roof.
The exterior consists of three storeys and an attic, with three windows. There are two flat-roofed twelve-pane dormers in a high mansard roof, above a twelve-pane sash window on the first floor, which is adorned with an architrave and cornice. The shopfront, dating from around 1850, has pilasters and includes a pair of doors with a transom light on the left, as well as central doors with a transom light. Large plate glass panes flank the doors, all set beneath an entablature with a pendant bracket cornice. The building has a moulded parapet, a cropped stack on the left, and a very deep stack on the right, both resting on a rubble base.
The interior was inspected by Bath Council in 1986 and features brick arched vaults beneath the house, with a flagged-stone floor. The first floor has fine cornicing, while the ground floor was extensively replaced in 1987.
