Description

12 Monmouth Place is a late 18th-century terraced house, one of a pair with number 11. The building likely incorporates earlier fabric and has 20th-century additions. It is constructed of rough render on a rubble base, with an asbestos cement slate roof. The house is three storeys and has an attic space accommodated by a dormer in a high mansard roof with coped gables. The first and second floors feature two two-light cross casements set within painted splayed reveals. The ground floor has a shop unit brought forward to the pavement, including a part-glazed door to the left and a late 19th-century plate glass display front with central doors and small pane transom lights, returning to the left, all beneath a late 20th-century fascia. A thin ashlar cornice runs above, supporting a parapet; no chimney stack is visible. The interior was not inspected. The pair of houses appears to be older than the surrounding properties, potentially marking the initial development along Bristol Road.
