Description

Willow Cottages is a row of three cottages located at right angles to the road in Saltford. They date from the late 17th century to the mid 18th century, with some alterations made in the early 19th century and late 20th century. The cottages are constructed of coursed rubble with stone dressings, featuring ashlar copings and gabled pantile roofs with end brick stacks.

The cottages are arranged in a stepped formation uphill, each having a double-depth plan. The exterior is two stories high, with the top and center cottages having two-window ranges, while the roadside cottage also has two stories and a two-window range. The top cottage, No. 3, features late 20th-century paired casements. The center cottage, No. 2, has edge-moulded architraves with 2-light early 19th-century casements. The bottom cottage, No. 1, showcases 2-light ovolo-moulded mullioned windows with casements on the ground floor and edge-moulded architraves with 2-light early 19th-century casements on the first floor.

Plain hoods are present over the doors to Nos. 1 and 3, with the former having concrete block jambs and part-glazed, plank doors. No. 2 features a plain architrave with a flat hood on brackets and a door with a rectangular light. The return facade of No. 1 facing the road includes a 2-light ovolo-moulded mullion window on the ground floor and a 2-light edge-moulded mullion window on the first floor, both fitted with early 19th-century casements. The interior has not been inspected.
