Description

Three cottages, dating back to the 17th century with alterations in the early 19th and 20th centuries. They are constructed of squared and coursed lias rubble with ashlar dressings, some cast slag block quoins, and have pantile roofs.

The cottages were built incrementally, forming complex gabled units. They returned at the left to create a deep wing, and Mill Cottage has a cross gable facing the road. A further wing was added to the rear, within the angle of the main range; this later addition features a long, gently sloping roof.

The cottages are two storeys high. Number 3, slightly set back on the road, features a stone mullioned window with two small panes above a single multi-paned casement and a recessed plank door. Number 2 has a coped face gable with a small stack and two small 20th-century windows above a two-light window with a moulded mullion and small-pane casement. The return side has a coped gable above a three-light window with moulded mullions and a drip course; the ground floor has a larger 19th-century three-light casement. The rear wing has a part-glazed 20th-century door. The roof of this wing slopes down, and has a plain gable with a small stack, and is hipped at the inner end. A large brick stack rises from the main ridge where it joins the wing ridge. The return side has a two-light casement on each floor, and a 20th-century lean-to porch with a door. The rear gable is plain with a brick stack. The inner face, which is rendered, has a three-light window above two two-light 20th-century wood casements.

The interiors were not inspected, but are likely to contain features of interest.
