Description
Highnams Farm Bridge is a Grade II listed structure made from pennant stone, which is squared and coursed on the faces and soffit, with ashlar used for the voussoirs and copings. The stone used is unusually small, nearly the size of bricks, with some areas featuring replacement engineering brick and render that is scored to resemble stone.
The bridge has a depressed, four-centred arch that spans 12 feet (4 meters) and has a simple chamfered profile. The arch terminates at the footings with chamfer stops, although these are mostly buried, except for the east side on the north face. The arch soffit and the carriageway walls remain unaltered and made of stone. The parapet is very low, situated well below the level of the embankment. The bridge features plain raked wing walls that project perpendicularly and slope down to dwarf piers. The south wing walls have stone coping, while the coping on the north face and wing walls has been replaced with engineering brick.
