Description

This barn, located about 35 metres west of Rectory Farmhouse, likely dates from the mid 15th century and has undergone later alterations, including re-roofing in the 19th century. It is constructed from sandstone rubble with limestone dressings and features a pantiled roof with raised coped verges, a pitched slate roof over the front cart entry, and sections of corrugated asbestos and double Roman tiles.

The front of the barn includes a projecting cart entry with a 4-centred arched chamfered doorway on the right side. To the left, there is a lean-to structure, and above, two loading doors are positioned under the eaves, featuring hollow-chamfered stone jambs. The right side of the barn has two 4-pane windows with heavy timber lintels, a loading door in the gable end, and heavy quoins. Attached to the rear right is a single-storey wing with a door at eaves level and a corrugated asbestos roof. The left side has a lean-to with a door and a double Roman tiled roof.

At the rear, there is a similar cart entry with a door on the right side, which is pointed arched with one wave-moulding and hollow chamfer, along with a lean-to on the right. Inside, the barn features 19th-century roof construction, including principal rafters, tie-beams, and two rows of purlins.
