Description

Codrington Cottage is a house located in a village street in Stanton Drew, with origins dating back to the late 17th century. The cottage has been extended to the east and has undergone alterations and additions in the 19th and 20th centuries. It features whitewashed rubble walls and pantiled roofs, with brick stacks that were originally at the gable ends, as well as home double Roman tiles. The building follows a former lobby entry plan and is two storeys high with three windows.

On the ground floor, there are two three-light and, on the first floor, three two-light 20th-century metal casements. A central blocked door has a circular light above it. Originally, a single room was added to the left, and the structure was extended to fill a curved boundary. A 20th-century door leads to the inner front side, and a catslide roof is present at the front. There is also a 19th-century three-light casement on the ground floor at an angle, with a former corner wall remaining only at eaves level.

At the rear, there is a single-storey lean-to on the left with a three-light casement and a door, along with a two-light casement under the eaves. To the right, there is a blocked rear door, two two-light casements on the ground floor, and a three-light casement under the eaves. An addition to the right includes a door, a small single light, and a two-light casement under the eaves.

Inside, there is a winder stair at the rear of the original cottage and a second winder in the addition. On the first floor, a door leads through the original external wall, and there are stop-chamfered beams, a newel stair to the attic, and a four-bay 19th-century roof that is visible, featuring principal rafters and one row of purlins.
