Description

This is a mid-19th century raised pavement situated in front of numbers 20 to 38 (even) on the north side of Maltravers Street. It features a retaining wall constructed of red brick. The pavement is defined by iron railings supported by 41 hexagonal posts, each topped with shallow pointed caps. The railings are dated 1849 and incorporate a Norfolk lion in relief. The railings are flanked by Pulborough stone piers at the east and west ends; the west pier has a distinctive ogival cap. The raised pavements are part of a group with numbers 2 to 10 (even) Maltravers Street and numbers 69 and 71 High Street.
