Description

No 1 Baker's Arms Hill is an early 19th-century terraced house, part of a group that includes Nos 17, 19, and 21 Maltravers Street. The house features a red brick north elevation and a rendered west elevation, topped with a hipped slate roof and red brick chimneys. It stands three storeys tall and has a brick modillion eaves cornice.

On the north elevation, there is a range of double-hung sash windows with glazing bars on the first and second floors. The ground floor showcases a segmental bay with three double-hung sash windows, also with glazing bars, and a moulded cornice supported by consoles. The west elevation includes a round-arched double-hung sash window with glazing bars on the first floor and a horizontally sliding sash window with glazing bars on the ground floor.

The entrance features a six-panelled door, with two fielded and two moulded panels, partly glazed, set in a moulded frame with plain reveals. Above the door is a dentilled pediment supported by consoles, and it is approached by three limestone steps flanked by fluted iron railings with acanthus capitals. There is a one-storey extension to the south, which is rendered and has a brick modillion cornice. This extension includes a window with a horizontally sliding sash and a four-panelled door, with the top two panels glazed, both topped by a shallow hood on three consoles. The door is reached by three brick steps with iron railings.

No 1 Baker's Arms Hill is part of a group with The Little House, and Nos 3 to 31 (odd) Maltravers Street, as well as Nos 2 and 6 on the west side of Baker's Arms Hill.
