Description

The Old Market House is an early 19th-century building on Maltravers Street. Constructed from yellow brick, it features a pitched slate roof. The building is two storeys high and has a stuccoed cornice and blocking course. It incorporates two ranges of double-hung sash windows with glazing bars. The main entrance has a door with six fielded panels, a wreath and hand knocker, and a rectangular fanlight. A porch with Tuscan columns and pilasters flanks the door, along with straight entablatures featuring paterae in the frieze. The porch has a three-centred arch to the front, accentuated by a fluted keystone, and a cornice with moulded modillions arranged in groups of three. The door reveals and soffit of the doorcase have fielded panels. The building is sometimes referred to as part of The Parade, along with Nos. 14 to 38 (even).
