Description

This is a late 18th-century building on the south side of Maltravers Street. It is constructed with grey headers and red brick dressings, with the rear and side elevations rendered. The roof is slate, hipped, and features red brick chimneys. The building is three storeys high, with a red brick modillion eaves cornice that projects due to the wooden eaves and is further emphasised by a moulded gutter. It has three ranges of double-hung sash windows with glazing bars. The central window on the first floor has been blocked up. The central doorway on the ground floor is flanked by two Tuscan pilasters with a noticeable swelling or bulge (entasis), supporting a frieze with rounded, convex sections (pulvinated) and a dentilled pediment. The door itself is set in panelled reveals and is accessed via two panels of glazed glass and one ashlar step. A two-storey extension to the rear has a tiled lean-to roof. This building, along with numbers 3 to 31 (odd) and the Little House, forms a group with numbers 1, 2 and 6 Bakers Arms Hill.
