Description

This is a row of four early 19th-century terraced houses, numbered 17 to 21, located on the south side of Maltravers Street. The fourth house in the row is also numbered 1 Baker's Arms Hill. The houses are built of red brick with a hipped slate roof and red brick chimneys. They have a brick modillion eaves cornice.

Each house is three storeys high. The first and second floors feature ranges of double-hung sash windows with glazing bars. The second floor of number 19 has a casement window with glazing bars instead. The ground floor of each house has a segmental bay with three double-hung sash windows and a moulded cornice supported by consoles. The front doors consist of six fielded panels, topped with a semi-circular fanlight, all set within concentric plain brick arches. Two steps lead up to each door, except for number 21, which has three; number 21 also has a wooden post and iron rail. Number 19 has an elaborate mid-19th century door knocker.

The buildings form a group with numbers 3 to 31 (odd), the Little House, and numbers 1, 2, and 6 Baker's Arms Hill.
