Description
The raised pavement from west of No. 51 extends as far west as School Lane and includes railings. It is believed to have been constructed around 1846 or shortly thereafter, following an incident during Queen Victoria's visit when her carriage became stuck due to the road's height. The pavement features a red brick retaining wall topped with ashlar coping. Ashlar steps are integrated into the retaining wall opposite Nos. 59 and 71. The iron railings consist of 29 hexagonal iron posts with shallow pointed caps, which are dated 1849 and feature a Norfolk lion in relief. This structure is part of a group that includes Nos. 45 to 63 (odd), 67 to 73 (odd), and 77 to 83 (odd), as well as Nos. 46 to 62 (even) and the associated pavements and railings.
