Description
Nos 81 and 83 Maltravers Street are a pair of 19th-century buildings, dating from 1849, constructed of red brick with grey headers in Flemish bond. They feature a double-pitched slate roof with gable ends on the north elevation and projecting purlins adorned with ornamental bargeboards. Each building is two storeys high and has one window range. The first floor is characterized by tripartite double-hung sash windows with glazing bars, while the ground floor has canted bays topped with hipped slate roofs, also featuring double-hung sash windows with glazing bars. Each building has one partly glazed planked door; No 81 has one ashlar step leading up to it, while No 83 has four steps. These buildings are part of a group that includes Nos 45 to 63 (odd), 67 to 73 (odd), and 77 to 83 (odd), as well as Nos 46 to 62 (even), along with the pavements and railings.
