Description
St Catherine's Presbytery is a presbytery that adjoins St Catherine's Roman Catholic Church and was built around 1883 by M E or C Hadfield, who also recast the church. The building is constructed of stone rubble with ashlar dressings and features a slate roof with two stone chimneystacks located to the west behind the ridge. It is two storeys high with irregular fenestration.
The main elevation faces northeast and has five irregularly spaced casements on the first floor and three on the ground floor. Decorative hopper heads are present on the rainwater pipes. There is a square stone tablet with a carving of angels on the first floor. The ground floor includes an off-central porch with paired lancets at the front, an arched doorcase to the side, and a half-hipped gable that features a carved wooden design of quatrefoils. The building has a plinth.
On the northwest elevation, there is a one-storey service wing with a stepped gable. The southeast elevation has two paired casements on the first floor and two triple casements on the ground floor. A gablet on this side features wooden carvings of trefoils and quatrefoils. The southwest elevation has two similar gablets and is adjacent to St Catherine's Roman Catholic Church.
