Description

The Church of St Catherine is a Roman Catholic church located on Beach Road. Originally built around 1875 as a chapel for the Duchess of Norfolk, it was enlarged and recast in 1883 by M E or C Hadfield. The church is constructed of stone and is aligned north-south, featuring a 13th-century French exterior. It has two gables on the south side above the porch and includes wheel windows. The nave and east aisle consist of five bays, while the west transept has gables on both the north and south sides. A presbytery is connected to the east transept. Inside, the church contains three crocketted and gilded altars adorned with saints, as well as a pulpit, all made from a variety of marbles.
