Description

The presbytery to St Cuthbert's Roman Catholic Church is a 19th-century building made of coursed rubble stone with ashlar dressings, including quoining. It features a pitched and hipped Welsh slate roof with terracotta ridge tiles.

The presbytery is attached to the north-west end of the church by an enclosed, single-storey link that contains the sacristy, which is part of the church's separate Grade II* listing. The front (north-east) elevation has three bays, with an off-centre doorway on the ground floor accessed by a flight of eight stone steps. There is an open porch with a red tiled, lean-to roof supported by timber brackets, featuring carved timberwork above. The pointed-arched doorway has single marble columns on each side, with double panelled and partly glazed doors. Above this is a cross window on the first floor.

To the left, there is a two-storey canted wing with a polygonal roof and transom windows, which are taller on the first floor. This wing turns the corner and connects with the enclosed linking corridor. To the right of the elevation, a slightly projecting gabled bay features a canted bay window on the ground floor, topped by a stone parapet. The first floor has a six-light mullion and transom window with a relieving arch above it, and there is a very narrow, arrow-loop style single light in the gable apex.

The north-west side elevation is rendered, featuring a central doorway and various cross windows that are irregularly sited. The interior has not been inspected.
