Description

The presbytery on Cessnock Road in Troon was designed by Reginald Fairlie in 1914. This near-symmetrical, two-storey, four-bay building has an L-shaped plan, with a single-storey wing at the rear. It is arranged in a 1-2-1 grouping, with the centre bay recessed at the first floor. The presbytery is connected to the church and sacristies on the south transept by an arcaded passage.

The exterior is constructed from squared and snecked bull-faced cream sandstone, with some rake-jointed sections. It features polished sandstone dressings, tile-hanging on the first-floor inner returns, and harled surfaces on the southwest side. The building has overhanging eaves, projecting cills, and shallow oriel windows that are corbelled at the first floor.

On the southeast elevation, which serves as the entrance, there is a round-arched boarded timber door offset to the right of centre, framed by a round-arched surround. To the left, there is a single window, and above, there are single recessed windows in both bays. The ground floor features quadripartite windows in the flanking bays, while the first floor has four-light canted oriels that project outwards. There are also single windows at both floors in the returns on the outer left and right.

The northeast side elevation includes single windows at both floors, offset to the right of the stack, and a single window in the single-storey wing, which is recessed to the right. An 8-bay arcaded passage is located to the outer right.

The building has replacement glazing throughout, with grey slate roofs that are pitched and piended, sweeping at the eaves. It features cast-iron rainwater goods, a moulded cope to the wallhead stack centred in the northeast gable, a coped stack at the rear, and circular cans.

The interior was not seen in 1997.
