Description
The Church of St. Catherine is a parish church built in 1857, with the chancel added in 1868. It is constructed of yellow brick with ashlar dressings and features slate roofs with raised stone coped gables. The church includes a nave with a western bellcote, a north porch, a chancel, and a vestry. Notable architectural elements include stepped chamfered buttresses and a moulded string course. The west end has a slightly projecting bay that supports a gabled single-arched bellcote, which contains a single two-light window with panel tracery. The gabled north porch features a chamfered moulded outer doorway with embattled octagonal responds, a chamfered inner arch, and a planked door. The nave has three trefoil-headed lancets, while the chancel has two. The east window consists of three lights with panel tracery in the upper part. The vestry matches the style of the church, and the south side mirrors the north. Inside, there is a moulded and pointed chancel arch with octagonal responds and painted brick walls. All fittings date from the 19th century. The church was built at the expense of George Gregory of Harlaxton.
