Description
The gateway and boundary wall to the Old Manor House date from around 1600 and are constructed from ashlar and coursed squared stone in the Renaissance Revival style. The gateway features a moulded round arch supported by square piers, with blank shields in the spandrels. Above the cornice, there is a shouldered round gable with moulded coping and three finials. The boundary wall has slab coping and runs approximately 80 meters in length, with the section bordering Pond Street displaying four stepped buttresses and two small round-arched culvert openings. This gateway and wall are a part of the remains of the Old Manor House, demolished around 1860 to 1875 by John Sherwood Gregory.
