Description

This is a Tudor-style cottage, likely dating to around 1830-40, and later altered in the late 20th century. It was probably built around 1820-1840 by Gregory Gregory, who was the Lord of the Manor of Harlaxton. The cottage is constructed of coursed squared stone with red brick and ashlar dressings, topped with a pantile roof. It features a brick plinth and quoins, ashlar coped gables with kneelers, and a coped ashlar ridge stack with a double flue. The two-story building has a two-window front. The windows are stone mullioned casements with diamond-pane glazing. The front elevation features a large, shouldered external gable stack with an inglenook window and a coped ashlar double flue, flanked to the left by a three-light window. To its left is a Tudor arched board door, flanked to the left again by a four-light window, all under a stepped cornice. A single-light window completes the right side of the facade. The left return has a two-light window, with a three-light window below, both with cornices. A 20th-century external stack is situated to the left. The right return has a two-light window on each floor.
