Description
The Forge is a house dated 1794, remodelled around 1830, with a later addition in a matching style from the late 20th century. It is constructed of brick with ashlar dressings and has renewed plain tile roofs. The building features two stone gable stacks with coped square double flues, dentillated eaves, and coped gables. It is two storeys high and has a three-window range. The openings have stone surrounds, mullions, and leaded glazing, set under earlier brick flat arches. The central window is a two-light window, above which is a datestone inscribed "GDG 1794". On either side of this window are three-light windows. The central entrance has a Tudor arched stone doorcase with a single light window to the right, all under a common label mould, and features a 20th-century door. Beyond the entrance, there are three-light windows on each side. To the left, there is a single-storey garage. This building is one of those rebuilt between 1790 and 1820 by George de Ligne Gregory and remodelled in a picturesque style between 1820 and 1840 by Gregory Gregory, who were successive Lords of the Manor of Harlaxton.
