Description

The Gateway to The Forge, located at number 77 on High Street in Harlaxton, is an early 19th-century structure made of ashlar stone. It features buttressed square piers that support a flat gable with a cornice and double chamfered coping with hipped ends. Originally, it likely had finials that are now missing. The gateway includes a flat-headed recess that contains a segment-arched opening, which holds a pair of small 19th-century wrought-iron gates. This architectural feature was probably introduced by Gregory Gregory, the Lord of the Manor of Harlaxton, around 1820 to 1840.
