Description

The Old Manor is a house located on Petworth Road in Witley, originally built in the 16th century. It was extended to the left in the 17th century, further extended and refronted in the 18th century, and restored in the 20th century. The building features a timber-framed core that is clad in a chequerwork pattern of brown and blue brick on the center and left sides, with red brick on the right. The roofs are plain tiled and hipped over the central range.

The house has a half-H shaped plan with a lower cross wing and a flush gable on the left, while the right end has a taller gable. It stands two stories high, with a plat band above the ground floor and first floor of the right gable. There are rear stacks located to the right of the center and two diagonal ridge stacks also to the right of the center.

On the first floor, there are three diamond-pane, two-light windows in the center, one window on the left, and two cambered-head, keystoned glazing bar sash windows on the right, all under gauged brick lintels. The ground floor features a 2-light, diamond-pane casement window on the left under a gauged brick head, and one window to the left of center. To the right, there are two keystoned, cambered-head 12-pane glazing bar sash windows.

A panelled door is situated to the right of center, sheltered by a flat hood supported by a dentilled cornice, which is adorned with a ribbon garland and floral decoration. The frame is exposed with herring-bone infill on the right-hand return front.
