Description
Nos. 23-27 on High Street is a house that has been divided into part shops and part accommodation. It dates back to the 16th century, with extensions from the 17th century at the front and alterations made in the 19th century. The building is timber framed and clad in red and blue brick at the bottom, with tile hanging above in a diamond pattern on the outer ends. It has a plain tiled roof with an end stack to the left and a rendered end ridge stack to the right. The structure is two storeys high, featuring three gables that face the street, with the largest gable on the left and the right-hand gable set back slightly. On the first floor, there are three glazing bar sash windows, one in each gable. The ground floor includes a 20th-century shop window to the left, a square bay window in the center, and three-quarter glazed doors: one at the left end (No. 23), one under a transom light in the center (No. 25), and a six-panel door with the top two panels glazed to the right under a flat hood porch (No. 27). The right-hand return front has exposed framing.
