Description

The entrance gates to the Royal Military Academy date from the early 19th century and feature stucco piers with cast iron railings. The design includes a half oval plan with quadrant side railings that project at the ends. The square panelled piers stand on moulded plinths and have moulded capitals, measuring 7 feet high at the ends and 8 feet high on either side of the main gates. The central double gates are topped with a roundel band and an arch above, while the flanking side gates are lower and also feature similar roundel bands. The quadrant railings are set on dado walling. This structure is included for its group value.
