Description

Castle Hill is a large mansion built in the late 18th century to early 19th century, which includes an earlier north wing. The entire building is now rendered and is mainly two storeys tall, with part of it rising to three storeys. It features towers, turrets, and a complex roof design with crenellated parapets. The roof is covered with slate and has lead hips and ridges.

On the ground floor, there is a colonnaded verandah with a stone balustrade above. The ornate porch consists of triple linked columns in the French Renaissance Tuscan order, resting on plinths. Similar columns on the verandah likely date from alterations made in 1883. The north wing, also from this period, was originally built as a picture gallery and has small pane sash windows. Most of the other windows are four-light casements with mullions and transoms. The porch is located to the left of center on the east elevation, and the mansion features massive chimney stacks adorned with crenellations and machicolations.
