Description

Melton Lodge is a large mansion dating from the early 19th century. It is constructed of gault brick with slated hipped roofs and features numerous brick stacks with moulded caps. The southwest-facing garden front has a curved corner on the left-hand side and a semi-circular projection on the right, which returns to the northeast side. The garden elevation has a seven-window range, with sash windows in recessed frames, featuring glazing bars and gauged brick flat arches above. The window above the entrance has a semi-circular arch and radial glazing bars to the top sash. A verandah with a lean-to slated roof is situated at ground floor level, supported by paired square wood Tuscan columns. The entrance has an enclosed porch with Tuscan pilasters and an entablature, leading to a four-panelled door with raised and fielded lower panels and glazed upper panels. A coved cornice runs along the eaves, embellished with modillions.
