Description

Englefield Green House is a large house, likely dating from the 18th century or earlier. It is constructed with white stucco walls and a slate roof with red tile hips, featuring four chimney stacks. The house is three storeys high. The front elevation features a single-storey projecting block with a small cornice, and 8-pane sash windows on the ground floor. The first floor has six 12-pane sash windows, while the second floor incorporates four-pane casements and two-light case-ments. A semicircular bay projects from the north end on the first floor, with 16-pane casements and wrought iron railings. The second floor of the north end has six-pane casements. The rear elevation has two full-height projecting wings, each with a hipped roof and windows similar to those on the front elevation. The interior includes a good staircase with cut strings, carved brackets, and three turned balusters to each tread, along with a curtail step and fluted newel post. Original fireplaces are also present.
