Description

Roundoak is a large house built in the early 19th century. The east entrance front was remodeled in the 1950s by Sir Albert Richardson KCVO, PPRA. The exterior is roughcast with a low-pitched hipped roof made of Westmorland slate and features five chimney stacks on the main building. The house has two storeys and includes an entrance porch with Corinthian columns, a panelled door, and a fanlight.

On the north elevation, there is a tented verandah supported by delicate wood features with arched designs. The west elevation has a verandah that wraps around a semi-circular two-storey bay, which has eight-pane French windows, with matching six-pane casements above. There is a lower two-storey wing to the south with a low-pitched hipped roof in the center. This wing features three 12-pane sash windows over an entrance door flanked by a pair of eight-pane sashes, while the end wings have 12-pane sashes above two 15-pane sashes. A later bow window is located at the south end.

Inside, the house boasts a good staircase. The sitting room features a marble fireplace with a carved wood overmantel, while the drawing room has an Adam style fireplace. The dining room includes a marble fireplace with two Ionic columns at the east end. All principal rooms are adorned with decorative plaster ceilings and moulded panelled doors.
