Description
Chart Cottage East is a cottage dating from the 16th century, with 19th-century repairs to the east wall. It is constructed of brown sand with a renewed tiled roof and features a brick chimneystack at the east end. The building has two storeys and three windows. On the first floor, there are two 3-light 20th-century casements and a central 2-light 20th-century casement. The ground floor includes a central 3-light ovolo moulded mullioned window from around 1600 with leaded lights. To the left, there is a 3-light 20th-century casement in an 18th-century surround, and to the right, a 2-light 20th-century window also in an 18th-century surround. The east side features a gabled weatherhood that incorporates a seat. The rear elevation has 20th-century mullions and a 20th-century canted bay window on the ground floor. Inside, the ground floor east room has a chamfered axial beam and exposed box framing, while the west room has exposed beams. There is a winder staircase located behind the central window. Other rooms were not seen.
