Description

The building is a barn and stables, now used as part workshop, located to the south of Hale House. It dates from the 16th century, with extensions from the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries. The structure is timber framed on a brick plinth, featuring weatherboard cladding on the right and a red and blue brick chequerwork pattern on the stable range. The roofs are plain tiled and hipped to the left.

The barn consists of three bays, with an 18th-century end bay to the right and a 19th-century stable range at right angles to the left, forming an L-shaped plan. The original barn has three bays with hipped ends and opposing waggon entrances in the centre. It features jowled main posts, good arch bracing on the wall frames, and wind-bracing on the centre bay of the roof. The roof is a queen-post clasped-purlin type with diminishing principals, and there is a brick infilled partition wall to the left. The 18th-century bay to the right has a thinner frame and is diagonally braced. The ground floor has garage doors, and the 19th-century brick stable range to the left includes two windows and a central door beneath a transom.
