Description
Boswell Farm House is a late 16th-century house located in Ockley. It features a timber frame set on a brick plinth, with brick infilling and some sections of wattle and daub. The roof is covered with Horsham slabs on the left and front, while the right side has a half-hipped roof with upper courses of slate and lower courses of plain tiles. The building has an unusual cross-shaped plan and stands two storeys high, with a 17th-century stack positioned at the junctions of the ranges.
On the first floor, there is curved bracing, and the left side has two framed bays, each with a diamond-pane leaded casement window on both floors. The right side also has two bays, featuring one diamond-pane casement window on the first floor and a blocked door below. The central gabled porch includes a first-floor window and a door to the left, with a queen-post truss visible in the gable.
Inside, the left half is open to the roof and has a smoke hood over the chimney. At the time of the resurvey, the house was used as a store for kennels and had remained virtually unaltered since the 19th century.
