Description

ABINGER C.P. RUCKMANS LANE TQ 13NW Oakwood Hill 8/70 Barn and Cottage at Ruckman's Farm GV II

Barn and cottage. C17, extended in c1894/5 by Sir Edwin Lutyens. Timber framed barn, frame exposed on south west corner with brick infilling, weatherboard cladding on remainder. Painted brick on extensions with some tile hanging to cottage gables. Plain tiled roofs. L-shaped plan with barn to south and later wing at right angles to rear running north, cottage on the end of wing. Four diamond-pane leaded casement windows on south side of barn, pentice extension to west. Gable end to left with Queen-strut roof exposed, loft door to first floor and louvred opening above. North side of barn - sliding doors to centre further door to right. Wing to north - open recess on west side facing lane. Cottage to left with square corbelled stack and gable to front-. 6-light leaded window in gable. Catslide across ground floor left, flat roofed projection to right with leaded window and part glazed door. East elevation (rear) of cottage tile hung and with dormer window. Included for group value.
