Description
Abbots is a house that dates back to the early 16th century, and possibly even earlier. It has been extended in the 20th century to the left, right, and front. The building features a timber frame set on a rendered plinth, with whitewashed brick infilling and extensions that are also whitewashed brick and tile hung. The original cottage, now located at the rear, has a Horsham slab roof, while the extensions have plain tiled roofs.
The house is two storeys high and has a stack located at the rear right of centre. It consists of two framed bays with arched bracing on the first floor, and each bay has one diamond-pane leaded casement window on both floors. There is a gabled 20th-century brick porch at the centre and a windowed extension to the right. On the left-hand return front, an exposed gable end truss features a short crown-post. To the right, there is a single-storey extension with a hipped roof and imitation framing. A whitewashed brick range with a hipped roof steps forward on the left and includes a half-glazed door that leads into an entrance courtyard.
