Description

The Priest's House is a house with a core dating from the 15th century, which was extended in the 16th, 19th, and 20th centuries using older materials. It features a timber frame with whitewashed brick infilling and roofs made of Horsham slabs at varying heights. The original part of the house is located to the left of the center of a T-shaped plan, with later additions at both ends creating a long and picturesque arrangement. The building has two storeys with attics in the gable to the left of center. There are corbelled brick stacks at the ends, larger multiple stacks at the junctions of the ranges, and another to the right of center on the old core. The windows are irregularly placed, with most being diamond-pane leaded casements. The right-hand addition includes a large hall window with six mullioned and transomed lights spanning both floors, flanked by smaller casements on the first floor. There is arch bracing to the ground floor left of the door. To the right of center, there is a two-window range with a first floor that jetties on end brackets, featuring four-light windows on the ground floor. The old house adjacent to the left has one first floor and two ground floor casement windows on the gable bay, with three windows on each floor to the right and a door at the angle with the gable. An off-set stack is located to the left of the gable on the side wall of the range set back to the left end, which has two windows on the first floor, one window below, and a further door to the left. The core of the building is said to have been the Priest's house, and it now forms part of the group around The Green.
