Description
Fairlands Farmhouse is a house with a core dating from the late 16th century to early 17th century, which was refronted and extended in 1735, as indicated by the date in the pediment over the main front. The core is timber framed and exposed, with whitewashed brick infill on the left-hand return front to the rear. The front features rendered and whitewashed brick cladding. The roofs are plain tiled and hipped at the front.
The entrance front has two storeys set on a rendered plinth with a cornice and parapet. It features a central gable or pediment and rusticated quoins at the ends. There is a rear ridge stack to the right, another ridge stack to the left, and a main ridge stack on the right-hand return front. The first floor has four sash windows under gauged brick heads, which are now painted over, and there are three windows below. The door is located to the right of centre in a gabled and bargeboarded porch with brick dado walls and rendered, part-glazed above. To the left, there is a single-storey buttressed wing that is set back and extends leftward.
The right-hand return front was the former entrance front, featuring a plinth and end piers with a plat band over the ground floor. It has six sash windows across the first floor and five below, with a square bay that is glazed in the former entrance.
