Description
Dowlands is a house with a core dating from the 16th to 17th century, featuring early 19th-century alterations. It has a timber frame, with the facade and left gable end covered in 19th-century colourwashed brick, which includes a first-floor band and a brick dentil eaves cornice. The rest of the building is plastered, and it has a 19th-century pantiled roof with glazed black tiles at the front. The house is two storeys high and has four windows arranged in a 1:3 pattern, featuring inset 16-paned sashes from the mid-20th century under flat brick arches made of painted brick. The upper windows are positioned well below the eaves. To the left, there is a lobby entrance with an early 19th-century doorcase that has fluted jambs and a pedimented cornice, leading to a six-panel door with the upper two panels glazed. On the right side, there are two ground floor canted bays and a doorcase between them with sunk pilasters and a hood, leading to a half-glazed door. An internal stack is present, but the interior has not been examined.
