Description

No. 23 High Street is a house dating from the first half of the 17th century, built in two phases. It features a timber frame with textured render and a thatched roof. The building has a two-cell form and stands two storeys high with an attic. The windows are casement style, and the boarded door was replaced in 1986. An internal stack with a red brick shaft was also rebuilt in 1986. Inside, plain studding is visible in the upstairs rooms, with the studding in the left cell being slightly heavier and likely older than the rest. Both phases of the building have external braces. The ground floor includes square plain joists in the left cell, and there is a newel stair. The roof over the right cell features clasped purlins and incomplete curved wind bracing.
